Caramel Apple Hot Damn Toddy
Caramel Apple Hot Damn Toddy! I’m taking a few liberties with the term “hot toddy”, but this tasty beverage does contain whiskey and served hot. So … there’s that.
I tried an authentic Hot Toddy a couple months ago when we were in Breckenridge for a Haunted Tour. It was a fun night – but cold to the bone and I was still getting over bronchitis. The toddy was good for what ailed me, but it was not exactly tasty.
But this Caramel Apple Hot Damn Toddy? It’s probably not anyone’s idea of a home-style remedy, but they go down real easy and are practically guaranteed to put a big whipped cream smile on your face! And that, my friends, is a medicine all its own.
I perfected my concoction in time for our big Thanksgiving cocktail contest. Of course it won first prize!
Okay, so in full disclosure, my Caramel Apple Hot Damn Toddy was pretty much the only contender. Zach claimed he was broke and couldn’t afford to buy any ingredients, and Sarah forgot her mixer – so her entry was whiskey with cranberry juice. But trust me, I know it would have won against some real competition.
I’ve tried it a few different ways, but my personal favorite is to rim the mug with Apple Cinnamon Crisp Sugar from The Spice & Tea Exchange, coat the inside of the mug with caramel, fill it up with adult cider, and top it off with whipped cream, more caramel, more Apple Cinnamon Crisp Sugar, and a cinnamon stick.
And as I drink it down, I add more whipped cream, more caramel and more sugar. (It’s possible I have the taste buds of a 12-year-old).
Of course the apple cider is delicious heated up with just a few cinnamon sticks, but if you’re looking for a festive drink that warms your belly and gives you a little tingle … Hot Damn! and Buttershots definitely add a welcome kick.
You are absolutely going to want a bigger mug!
